Welcome back, faithful supporters of Vye, in our last art update, we talked changes to our tokens. This update, we will talk about the card back and our changes to the box.
A Legacy-Thoughtful Card Back
When we decided to produce a second edition, we knew that we needed to consider a card back that would serve us for the lifetime of the game – expansions, promo cards, etc. would all need to use that same back. At the same time, we got a lot of feedback from players that they did not like seeing the copyright information on the back of the card. So we decided to explore a few new options. Here’s what we looked at:
Ultimately, we decided to stick with the existing card back. We wanted to remove the copyright information, but didn’t want to create something drastically different, giving owners of the first edition the ability to play with second edition cards or expansions without having huge differences in the card backs.
More Action on the Back of the Box
We liked the back of the box for the first edition, but felt it didn’t do a great job of showing Vye in action. A big part of selling the idea of action is in the composition of the back itself, so we explored a diagonal panel reveal and showing the tokens in action.
We also wanted the back to show off the new fortification rules – so we made sure to work in the Fortress and another card with more than one token each. We also dressed up the UPC a bit. Here’s how the back turned out:
That’s it for this update. Stay tuned for our next installment, when we discuss changes to the rulebook!
